Cybersecurity tips, a smart coffee maker and Japan's alert

@engineers_feed (58.8K likes, 4.4M views) advises always putting a comma in a password, saying it would break the CSV if the password leaked. @Dexerto (51.1K likes) says a man found his parents' smart coffee maker had used 1TB of data in just 10 days, overwhelming their Wi-Fi. @Polymarket (14.3K likes) reports that Japan declared a 'state of emergency in cyberspace', with more than 20 major companies reporting breaches.

Why it mattersThese were the two most-liked posts of the day, mixing practical security advice with connected-device and national cyber stories.

02

AI agents, Amazon and the new X Subscription

@SpaceXSI (13.5K likes, 3.5M views) says plans across Grok, Cursor and X Premium are unified as The X Subscription. @paulg (12.9K likes, 6.1M views) says Amazon banning agents is the first opening he has seen since Amazon's founding for a startup to build an Amazon competitor. He argues people will want agents to buy things for them, and will not want an Amazon-supplied agent.

Why it mattersBoth posts concern how AI products are packaged and who controls the agents that act for users.

03

Software outlook, AI costs and the jobs debate

@svembu (11.7K likes) says the software outlook is uncertain and AI has raised costs, citing a 4-fold increase in server prices and rapidly growing AI usage. He says his company has cut marketing, told employees there will be no usual pay increase, and has not grown headcount for 18 months. In a later post (8.2K likes) he says there are a million things to build in India. @Polymarket (7.4K likes) relays Jeff Bezos's prediction that AI could let Americans support families working 3 days a week.

Why it mattersPosters offer opposite readings of AI: one describes cost pressure and a grim jobs outlook, the other predicts a productivity boom.

04

AI-assisted decompiling and open-source clones

@amritwt (6.6K likes) says everything is opensource if you have enough tokens. @uwwgo (6.3K likes, 553.6K views) says Claude, after an argument about reverse engineering being lawful under EU regulation, is now decompiling the WHOOP app APK. @tomshardware (3.8K likes) reports a creator of free Adobe clones has unveiled open-source replications of Excel, PowerPoint and Word. @aphysicist (3.8K likes) expects people to decompile every piece of CAD/CAM and simulation software.

Why it mattersPosters see AI coding tools lowering the barrier to reverse engineering and cloning commercial software.

The business outlook for software is uncertain and AI has raised costs dramatically with a) massive 4-fold increase in server prices which we need for data centers b) AI usage increasing rapidly, leading to much higher expenses, which we are trying to control. On top of that is the challenging geopolitical backdrop. We have cut down on our marketing budget. We have also told our employees that we cannot have our usual pay increase this year. I have apolgized for not being able to avoid this. We will work hard to avoid mass layoffs but the outlook for software jobs in general is grim. We have not been growing our employee count for 18 months now. Most of our employees understand the situation. I am thankful to them. We are in the middle of reinventing ourselves. The next 3-5 years will decide how our reinvention has worked. Please pray for us 🙏
